There are two new applications: Fitness app and Workout App.
All the new stuff today is "Apple Pay," "Apple Watch," etc. Wonder if the era of the i-Name is over?
Cook says Apple Watch "gives us the ability to be more active and healthy."
Cook is back onstage! Now he's talking about health and fitness.
These work with Apple Watch to help you track your activity and your progress over time. He's showing us a video now.
The Activity app measure three separate aspects of your life: Move ring measures the calories you've burned. The Exercise ring captures the amount of time you've been active. The Stand ring shows how often you take a break from sitting.
The rings circle in completion once you've hit your daily goal.
The Apple Watch prods you to move more, stand more, and eat more oatmeal. (OK, not that last one.)
There's a dedicated Workout App. You can set your workout based on a list of activities. During your workout you can see how far, how fast, and how long you've been running/walking/biking--whatever it is you're doing!
Apple Watch, according to this video, also makes you incredibly good looking and toned.
"Why would you use a smartwatch instead of your phone?" Health tracking is one key reason. The iWatch seems to be a tracking superstar.
Cook: "We could not be more excited about bringing health and fitness features to the Apple Watch."
"It's a new, innovative, intimate way to communicate from your wrist."
Cook: "And so much more."
You can use it as a viewfinder for your iPhone camera, for example.
By the way that was Jay Blahnik in that video. Apple hired him last year to amp up fitness-related innovation.
Apple Watch controls your Apple TV, serves as a remote control for your iPhone camera, works as walkie-talkie, cleans your gutters!
Cook: "Apple Watch requires the iPhone because it's been designed to seamlessly work together."
Yes, the Apple Watch REQUIRES the iPhone. Probably no surprise there. (iPhone 5 or later.)
This thing is going to backordered for a long time.
Apple Watch will work with 5S 5C and 5, in addition to iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
Price: Starts at "only" $349
"So simple and elegant, it's something only Apple can do," says Cook.
Available early next year. "And we think it's worth the wait."
LOVE this magnetic charger. Just clinks onto the back of the watch. I'd like that for my phone, camera, and MiFi, please.
